Reminiscing in the Parlor : Leisurely Viewing Stereographs
Title:
Le Grande Traianon (Porcelain Trianon), Versailles, France
Date:
August 1875
Place:
France/Paris
Print Size:
6.875 x 3.313
Description:
One stereograph of the Grande Trianon (Porcelain Trianon), Versailles, France. The photograph shows a building with what might be a thatched roof, overlooking a body of water. The front has the title handwritten on it and the back has the owner's initials and a short description of the site. M. F. H. took a European tour in July and August of 1875, traveling from Belgium to Switzerland, Italy, France, England and Scotland. From other stereographs, it is clear this is from that trip.
Notes:
It appears as if what is pictured is not the Grand Trianon, but the smaller house, the Porcelain Trianon, which was built for Louis XIV's mistress. The back description is correct, but the title is not.
