Description:
One stereograph of the Latona Fountain, Versailles, France. The photograph shows the round fountain. The front has the title handwritten on it and the back has the owner's initials and a short description of the site. M. F. H. took a European tour in July and August of 1875, traveling from Belgium to Switzerland, Italy, France, England and Scotland. From other stereographs, it is clear this is from that trip.
Notes:
The Latona fountain features the Titaness Latona with her children Apollo & Diana. Based upon Ovid's Heroides, Latona turned the Lycian peasants into frogs when they refused her water and the second and third tier of the fountain features frogs. The lower tier feature turtles and alligators.
