Beaded edging on handle covers front and back sides and continues slightly onto bowl; upturned handle has five cast roses on the front, three cast roses on the back side; bow is washed with gold, oval, tapered, with a flat rim and pointed tip; three cast characters appear on the back of the handle, reading from left to right, a lion facing right, an anchor, and a capital "G"; the characters are raised, and not enclosed by boxes; the word "STERLING" follows the character; the front of the handle has been engraved with a capital "B".
